Working to drive change

Sustainability at the VELUX Group

Our contribution to a more sustainable building sector

VELUX roof windows are designed to transform living spaces by harnessing natural daylight and enhancing indoor air quality, promoting well-being and creating healthy indoor environments. Since our founding in 1941, VELUX has remained committed to delivering products that are both functional and beneficial to society, driving innovation in energy-efficient windows and ventilation solutions.

Today, as buildings account for nearly 40% of Europe’s energy consumption, improving indoor climates with innovative building solutions is more critical than ever. At VELUX, we aim to be part of the solution by creating energy-efficient, affordable, and healthier buildings, while taking steps towards minimising our impact on both people and the planet.

BIODIVERSITY
Protecting biodiversity and nature
Nature and biodiversity is the foundation for the way we live. It sustains us as a species. We're in the middle of a biodiversity crisis. All across the world, nature is under threat. If we don't take care of biodiversity, we won't live in as beautiful and species-rich of a planet as we are now.

DECARBONISATION
Powering ahead with greener logistics
There is significant potential for reducing scope 3 emissions that lies in transport flows between our factories and distribution centres. This is why we are focusing on leveraging greener transport options such as rail, BioLNG, and HVO fuels.

OUR APPROACH
Embedding sustainability into our corporate strategy

Ever since our founding, the VELUX Group has been shaped by our Model Company Objective.

In 2023, we embedded sustainability into our corporate strategy, making it a core element of our business and an integral part of all aspects of our organisation - from supplier selection to product design and end-of-life management.

Our decarbonisation commitments

We are committed to reducing emissions from our own operations and our value chain. To do so, we have set targets that follow the most ambitious pathway of the Paris Agreement and have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

By 2030, we aim to eliminate our operational (scope 1&2) emissions without using carbon offsets and halve our value chain (scope 3) emissions in absolute terms compared with 2020.

CLIMATE & NATURE
Our partnership with WWF

We are committed to reducing and removing CO2 equivalent to our historical carbon emissions (scope 1 and 2) since our foundation in 1941 and up until 2041 – our 100th anniversary. To help us deliver on this commitment, in 2020 we entered a 20-year partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The partnership aims to contribute the verified carbon reductions and removals generated by the forest projects to the host countries' climate commitments. This means that the verified carbon reductions and removals will not be traded nor used for offsetting by the VELUX Group.
